“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous examples involve:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at spectators in January 2024.
